Poisons in Tobacco

Tobacco smoke is a cocktail of over 4500 chemicals, of which 43 are known carcinogens (cancer-causing agents).

Some of the poisons in tobacco smoke are listed in the diagram to the right. Other poisons in tobacco smoke include:

  • Cadmium (car batteries)

  • DDT (insecticide)

 

  • Hydrogen Cyanide (gas chambers)

  • Toluene (industrial solvent)

 

  • Vinyl chloride (plastics)
